Tips for Successful Paper Folding

Basic Guidelines for the United F100 Paper Folder

  • Use only paper weights that are designed to work with the paper folder. Heavier paper may cause jams or fold poorly. Glossy or coated paper is not recommended because it can be difficult to feed.
  • Static electricity caused by laser printers can cause folding issues. If possible, fan or jog the paper to dissipate the static prior to loading into the paper folder.
  • Be sure the paper stack is neatly squared before loading into the paper folder.
  • Check that the paper side guides are set correctly. Slide them inward toward the paper stack and back out slightly so the paper moves freely between them.
  • Periodically check the rollers to be sure they’re not dirty or worn. To clean rollers, unplug folder from the power source then use a soft cloth slightly dampened with a non-abrasive cleaner.

Setting up your Job

  • Be sure the fold plates are installed and seated properly. Align the notches on the fold plates with the pins on the machine body and push gently to lock the fold plates into position.
  • Use the fold settings chart on the front of the machine to help set the fold stops for your chosen fold type and paper size.
  • Be sure the fold stop is aligned with both marks on the fold plate. If not, folds could be skewed.
  • You may need to adjust the fold stops up or down to accommodate the fold. If your folder is equipped with a “fine tune” knob on the end of the fold plate, turn to precisely set the fold.
  • To set up for a half fold, you’ll need to remove the bottom fold plate, rotate it 180° and reinstall.
  • If your folder has adjustable outfeed stacker wheels, move them to the correct position based on the paper dimensions you’re folding. This will ensure the folded pieces stack neatly upon exit.
